Hi Kids
This website will help you learn all about rabbits and how to take good care of them.
So you want a rabbit
Before you go get a rabbit there are some things that you will need.
When you go to buy a bunny you want to make sure it isnt sick. Check the bunny from head to toe to make sure it isnt hurt. Check its teeth and make sure they are straight. You dont want a bunny with crooked teeth. The bunny shouldnt look like it has a cold. It shouldnt have a runny nose or sneeze. If you can buy a bunny from a breeder it is way better. A breeder will help answer all your questions and help you to pick out that special bunny that is just right for you.

Bunny fun and games
You can buy one at a pet store, or you can make one with a grown-ups help.
Rabbits eat rabbit pellets and hay. You need to buy some of both. Try to use just one brand of pellets all the time. Dont buy different food each time. You will need to feed your bunny hay every day. Try not to use alfalfa.
You can buy a J-feeder and water bottle that will hold a couple days worth of food. Make sure you fasten it down or bunny will make a game of tipping it over just to see you run to fill them again.
Your bunny needs toys to play with while your not there. They like things that make noise when they pick it up with their teeth and throw it. An old set of keys on a key ring work great.

When you bring your bunny home put it into its cage and try to leave it alone and be real quiet around it for the first few days. Bunny will be real scared until it figures out you are its friend.
When you take your bunny out of the cage to play make sure there are no other pets around like cats or dogs that might accidently hurt your bunny. When you hold you bunny it is best if you have a thick long sleeve shirt on so bunnies nails dont scrath you. Sit on the ground and hold bunny in your lap. If you stand up and walk around your bunny may get scared and try to get away from you. It may scrath you or get hurt falling to the ground. Always stay right by your bunny so it doesnt get in trouble chewing on something its not suppose to.
Carry bunny like this
DO

DON'T
You should check every day to make sure your bunny isnt acting sick. Make sure its eating its food and that the water bottle is working right. If your bunny isnt hopping around like normal it may be sick. Ask a grown-up to help you if you think your bunny is sick. Bunnies dont get colds like people do. If you see thick white snot coming from your bunnies nose, or hear it sneezing alot then it is sick and you need to take it to the vet to get medicine to make it better.
Show your bunny
One of the best parts of keeping bunnies is showing them. Anyone can show their bunny at the local county fair or at an ARBA show. Have a grown-up call the 4-H county extention office near you so they can find out how to get you signed up to show your bunny.
